Design Mother Wit Writing
and Design is a creative studio in Charleston, West Virginia, that provides copywriting,
graphic design, and creative consultation. The old-fashioned phrase "mother wit" means "common sense."
My business has been driven by its name since I started it in 1983. Mother Wit offers innovative solutions to communication challenges — on deadline, at a reasonable
cost. But Mother Wit comprises a wide range of other creative endeavors, the activities that
feed my soul and keep my mind flexible — poetry, short stories, essays, songs, paper collages, photography, origami, and
tinkering with this website. And, after many years of leading workshops, I am particularly gratified
that my students produce their own vivid writing in many forms. For more information about
